Job Description:

Program Background Summary: Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) is five years USAID funded project starting June 2013 with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of education (DoE) throughout Pakistan to improve reading skills of at least 1.3 million children in grade one and two. The goal will be supported by three interrelated components including improved classroom learning environment for reading, improve policies and systems for reading and community based support for reading in Pakistan. The anticipated results include 23,800 teachers in 23,800 public schools with improved skills in teaching reading, 3,649 scholarships for ADE and B.Ed. (Hons.) students, mobile bus libraries reaching out to 300 communities.


 


Major Responsibilities:



  • Develop materials required for in-service teacher training under the project. This may include student activity books, scripted lesson plan, decodable readers, leveled readers, flash cards and other relevant material in Brahui  language.


·         Work with the Technical director supplementary resource development and provincial/regional review committees to develop a scope and sequence for Brahui  language



  • Use innovation and creativity in the material development process, taking into account recent research and best practices in reading and in classroom instructions

  • Ensure that all the materials developed are contextually relevant, error free, in-line with the national curriculum and is appropriate for early grade reading

  • Work with the typists and graphic designer to produce attractive and reader friendly material

  • Ensure that all the material is ready for printing in due time before  the start of academic year

  • Pilot test selected materials in schools


Education:


Qualification:     


Minimum qualification masters in linguistics/educational psychology/Brahui  (a degree in Education or primary teaching will be preferred) 


Experience:



  • Have at least 3-5 years of experience in;

  • Developing teaching and learning material for education programs with a particular focus for early grades in Brahui ; experience in reading related material will be preferred

  • Training of teachers and education officials

  • Experience as a primary classroom teacher specially grade Kachi to grade two is strongly preferred


Skills:



  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in Brahui  language

  • Content development skill in for early grades in Brahui  language

  • Understanding of the component skills of reading and how they interact to help children learn to read

  • Ability to model best practices in reading instruction (for example: reading aloud to a class, assessing students in reading, facilitating learning activities) for teachers

  • Good computer skills in MS office (typing in Brahui  is preferred


Travel Requirements:



  • This project has extensive field travel and the candidate should be willing to travel across province/region and to remote areas (at least 30% time will be spent in the field)
